KIPP and Goodwill Houston Win Big with Successful Donation

Nov 2, 2017 | News Press

(October 31, 2017) Goodwill Houston has a long history of partnership with local organizations to help improve lives and make communities stronger. Many times, this has involved assisting with big donation drives. Recently, Goodwill Houston has been reaching out to area schools and other non-profits with the opportunity to hold donation drives as fund raising events. Collecting gently used items for resale at Goodwill Houston stores has been a great way for groups to earn money, and at the same time, help Goodwill deliver on its mission of Changing Lives Through the Power of Work.

Goodwill Houston worked with the KIPP Connect charter school campus to host two successful events in October, 2017. “We love our Goodwill Donation Drives! They are brilliant. They are easy and fun, and the representatives treat us like family. Our teachers, community members, students and their families get to feel as if they are contributing to more than one cause, while making gains in our own fundraising goals for educational trips. We can’t wait until our next drive!“ said MeganRose LaRoche, Dean of Operations at KIPP Connect Middle School.

“We are very excited about being able to help KIPP Connect reach their fundraising goals, while also adding marvelous items to the inventory at our stores,” added Karen Speer, Donated Goods Acquisition Manager for Goodwill Houston. “Our programs are all about helping people find and keep good jobs. The funds that make these programs possible come from the sale of gently used donated goods, just like the ones from KIPP’s donation drives. Thank you to KIPP Connect for holding these events.”
