Katie Mattox overcame drug addiction and escaped an environment that never aligned with her life’s purpose. Katie’s struggles with addiction began at 18 years old – for years she faced a cycle of abuse, addiction, and relapse. Until 2015, when Katie checked herself into rehab and stayed four months, while there she was given a job as head of intake for new arrivals. After rehab she was admitted to the Bridge Over Troubled Waters Women’s shelter. She took classes for five additional months in order to earn her children back from Child Protective Services. Nine years ago today, August 7th, 2015 – while living at the shelter – Katie was hired at Goodwill Houston as an Assistant Manager and vowed to herself that she would take this second chance at life seriously. Within three months, she was able to earn enough money to get her own place and take custody of her kids. Since then, Katie has worked hard to show up for her team members and the organization. Being the Store Manager of the Victory Lakes location, Katie values and assists her associates in achieving their goals while reminding them they’re never alone. Katie lives by Goodwill’s core values and embodies them within the workplace and at home. Her effective smile and positive spirit are felt by her peers and team members. Despite her obstacles in life Katie continues to lead by example while striving for an even better future. Goodwill Houston has given Katie a place to grow, learn, and accomplish milestones she never knew were possible.
