Cesar Fuentes’ journey is one marked by resilience and responsibility beyond his years. When his father lost his job, Cesar’s family was forced to relocate to a more affordable, but less resourced, neighborhood. Faced with a life-changing decision after high school pursue college or help support his struggling family, Cesar chose the path of sacrifice. Taking on 80% of the household bills, he became the backbone of his family while still navigating the challenges of young adulthood.
While the physical transition to a new neighborhood wasn’t too difficult for Cesar, he quickly noticed a shift in community dynamics. Despite these changes, he has stayed grounded by focusing on taking one day and one opportunity at a time, driven by a personal mantra to be better than he was the day before. At Goodwill, Cesar has found not only a job, but a place of opportunity and growth an environment where dedication and effort are recognized. His experience with the organization has reaffirmed his belief that, no matter the circumstances, applying yourself can lead to a better future.
