2010 GOODWILL GALA
"A Night at the Races"
May 1, 2010
River Oaks Country Club

Thanks for your support for our
2010 Goodwill Gala!
Goodwill Industries of Houston transformed River Oaks Country Club into a Kentucky Derby themed party for their 22nd annual gala, billed this year as “A Night At The Races.” As part of the Kentucky Derby theme, guests were greeted by a horse and jockey and many were seen wearing derby hats, summer suits, and jockey silks. The event, which featured silent, big board and live auctions, a sit-down dinner and live music, was a running-for-the-roses success.
Steve Lufburrow, Goodwill Houston President and CEO, welcomed more than 350 guests that included emcee, KPRC Local 2 Senior Producer and Host of “Beyond the Headlines”, Kim Davis, gala co-chairs Becky & Mark Kidd and live auctioneers Stuart Ford and Randy Helms.
A black tie affair until 2001, the Goodwill Gala has loosened up in recent years to appeal to a younger, hipper audience that refuses to attend anything less than a fun-filled, house-rocking party. While “country club casual” is the standard attire now, themed events have encouraged gala goers to turn up as tacky tourists, don their disco duds and bring out their best in biker chic. “We take our work seriously but ourselves lightly,” Lufburrow says.
Proceeds from the gala benefit Goodwill Houston’s job training and placement programs and services for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
