GOODWILL FACT SHEET
Goodwill Industries of Houston, the largest workforce provider in the city for special-needs populations, changes lives positively through the power of work. Since 1945, it has provided assessment, individual employment plans, training programs, employment counseling, and job search assistance to help clients find and keep a job. Goodwill retains its original focus on assisting people with physical and mental disabilities, but in response to evolving needs, it now also helps people with other barriers to employment such as a history of substance abuse, homelessness, incarceration, lack of education, and multi-generational poverty. The overall goal of Goodwill’s programs is to help people experience the fulfillment of finding and keeping jobs that allow them to be self-sufficient, productive members of society. This has proven to be an important element in breaking cycles of poverty, depression, substance abuse, and other ills for individuals and families.
