Dear friends and supporters,
While Goodwill is considered one of Houston’s leading non-profit organizations, we also run one of Houston’s largest retail operations. As we begin 2015, we have a record 104 locations - 51 retail stores and 53 stand-alone donation centers - throughout Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Brazoria, and Montgomery Counties. Our retail business creates local jobs and is the economic engine that fuels our real mission which is Changing Lives through the Power of Work.
Established in 1945, through the vision and inspiration of W.C. Morris, Sr. and the Rotary Club of Houston, Goodwill Industries of Houston originally opened its doors to serve people with physical disabilities. Over the years, our programs and services have expanded to meet the changing needs of Houston and its surrounding communities. Today, through our nine job connection service centers and many grant-funded programs, we provide job training and placement services to people with barriers to employment. This includes veterans, older workers, youth, the formerly incarcerated and, of course, individuals with disabilities.
This year we are so pleased to celebrate our 70th anniversary in Houston. We are so proud of the impact we have had on our great city and look forward to continued great things in the future.
Whether you donate your gently used items, shop at our stores, volunteer your time, or give through our various fundraising activities and events, your generosity helps change a life. I am proud of what we have accomplished together. And with your support, we will continue our commitment to families and communities by helping individuals improve the quality of their lives through the power and dignity of work.
