Goodwill Receives $700,000 Grant for Right Turn Program

Goodwill Industries of Houston has been awarded a grant from the Institute of Educational Leadership's Center for Workforce Development (IEL). The $700,000 grant will support the Right Turn Career-Focused Training Initiative ("Right Turn"). IEL's funding for the project comes from the Department of Labor (DOL).

The Right Turn program will work cooperatively with Goodwill Houston's other new youth program, Face Forward, which is also supported by DOL funds. These programs serve juvenile offenders ages 14-24 in an identified high-poverty, high crime neighborhood in Southwest Houston, connecting them with both the motivation and means to turn their lives in a positive direction. Both programs are currently in their start-up phase and expect to begin enrolling participants in January 2014.

Steve Lufburrow, Goodwill Houston President & CEO, says, "With this grant award, Goodwill Houston's program-specific funding from federal, state, local, and private sources exceeds $5 million in new and renewed awards for the 2013 calendar year - a historic benchmark for our organization."
